ABOUT TOURETTE SYNDROME

Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder where a person has repetitive, involuntary movements called tics. The diagnosis includes:

•Multiple Motor and one or more vocal tics.
•The occurrence of Tics throughout the day for more than a year with only short free periods.
•Onset before age 18.

Different people may have their own unique tics that increase with stress, and decrease with relaxation, or being involved with an activity. Some people can suppress their tics for a short time, but eventually have to let them out. For some people tics can be hardly noticeable and debilitating for others. Most people's tics are mild to moderately severe.

Tourette Syndrome can coincide with other problems. Such as poor concentration, difficulty with impulse control, learning problems, obsessive thoughts, anxiety, and mood problems. They can be a result of other problems such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD), and Bipolar Disorder.
